New Adventures

Surprise! So.....we bought a house! Well, that isn't really that surprising. The real news is that we bought a mid century brick beauty that we decided was just begging us to overhaul with a major renovation. The really surprising part is that we did the majority of the work in 5 days. 5 ... days. Underwriting delayed and delayed our close date, so our 4 week renovation turned into 5 crazy days, and well...nights, of blood sweat and tears...literally. Now, to put this in perspective, we had walls to take down, all the floors in the entire house to tear out and redo, an entire kitchen to gut and put back together, a water heater to relocate and replace, major electrical work to schedule in, and duct work to be run ... in ... 5... days. We found ourselves in another situation where people were telling us it couldn't be done. We were getting the "you're doing what?" looks of disapproval quite frequently. But the timeline was out of our hands at this point. God gave us 5 days to renovate, and we were trusting, He had this! Before I elaborate on the nitty gritty of the renovation, let me take a minute and share what we fell in love with and maybe you can see a bit of our vision and the dream we wanted to turn to reality.

The property and the very small mortgage payment were the driving factors for deciding to jump into this huge adventure. Looking past the overgrown yard, debris, flaking paint and overall smelliness of the place, we saw a diamond in the rough! We knew we were biting off more than a mouthful, but we felt like God had opened a door and we were going to have the faith to walk thru it. The delayed closing put a serious wrench in the plan, but we rolled with it and aside from minor injuries and some carpal tunnel, we're able to see the light at the end of the tunnel finally.

Our kids had quite a hand in the process, especially Shane who was thrown into demolition, concrete sanding, painting, and some serious heavy lifting. Honestly though, we would not have been able to do it without them. It wasn't just chores that we gave out for good parenting, we actually were depending on our whole family to work together to get our home in a livable condition before we had to move in. It is so humbling as a parent and moves me to tears every time I think about what was asked of Shane, our firstborn 14 year old, and more so that he did all that was asked of him and did it well. What a role reversal as a parent to depend on your child for things. But, wow did we grow together these last weeks.

We have still some big projects ahead including a full bathroom/laundry remodel in the the next month, but I'm dying to share some of these incredible before and after pics!!! I will be posting soon, so look out for some fun renovation spam, if you're into that! For now, we've taken down walls in the main living area and kitchen to open things up, replaced all the flooring in the house, painted EVERYWHERE, put in a whole new kitchen with a custom island that we made, had major electrical and duct work done(there was no heat/ac in the house!), gas lines run to the house and new appliances, and the hot water tank moved and replaced along with a bunch of new plumbing. That's what I'm remembering guys! I was not kidding when I said MAJOR renovation!
Even though we have decided to stay in Idaho for now, we plan to visit our Oregon friends and family lots!!! God is teaching us so much thru these experiences  and we are so thankful for His provision in our lives. I can't wait to post some pics of our reno!

Thanks for checking in on us and we would appreciate prayers! Let me know how we can pray for you as well.
